Carnmore Win Dull

Carnmore.............3-7

Moycullen............1-4

Moycullen and Carnmore, two teams hoping for a better season this time around than the one past gave a small band of supporters little to enthuse over when they clashed in the West Board Senior Hurling league at Pearse Stadium on Sunday, Neither fifteen showed flair or any real enthusiasm for a game that at no time got off the ground or gave any indication of the true worth of either side.

GOT MOVING

Moycullen's Sean Lydon who got moving in the eleventh minute should have had a goal; put palmed the ball over the bar from about three yards out. Ten minutes later, he did make amends and scored a fine goal with beautiful opportunism. A minute laid Carnmore's Jimmy Hughes increased his side's lead from 1-3 to 2-3 and at half time they led by thirteen points to Moycullen's 2-1. And this was a lead Carnmore were always to have. For both sides could only manage a further three points each to complete a disappointing afternoon.

PERFECT FOIL

Action wise the half was limited to some really good attempts up front in the Carnmore side to add to their lead through Tom Lenehan ant Paddy Joe Spellman. On the opposition the two Bohans in the back line were almost the perfect foil to this twin threat and had a consistent hour throughout The few stars on the Carnmore side were as had been said at midfield and thereabout where Sean Murphy, Jimmy Hughes and Johnny Long impressed. Paddy Jot Spellman in the forward line achieved little but his great running and his willingness to chase every ball made him and Tom Lenehan a dangerous pair.

GLORIOUS SAVES

In the back line Peru Fahy, Tom Walsh and Malachy Qualter emerged best but this line got so little real work that it was difficult lo judge its worth. On the Moycullen side goalie Patsy Conneely was in fine form. In front of him the two Bohans and Lal Molloy tried hardest. in the forwards Sean Lydon was easily the outstanding performer but Jim Heffernan put in a good hour as did Pete Darcy.
