Great Second Half Sees Carnmore Win

Oran/Maree………4-2 Carnmore………4-4

A second half comeback by Carnmore saw them win this very entertaining West Board Senior hurling semi-final at Pearse Stadium on Sunday. At half time they trailed by 4-3 to 1-1 but then back came Carnmore with a series of attacks which Oran/Maree just could not withstand. After three minutes of play Michael Kelly booted the ball to the net after a tussle with two Carnmore backs, minutes later the same player had a great goal after a pass from Pascal Hannify.

Carnmore were next to score with a goal by Michael Greaney. This score gave Carnmore a little confidence but Oranmore/Maree had a point from a free by Pascal Hannify. They hit again when Bernie O Connor had two goals in a few minutes. Carnmore then attacked and had a point from Tommy Madden but Oranmore/Maree had the last two scores of the first half when Pascal Hannify had points from a free and one from play.

Carnmore with the breeze in their favor in the second half brought Padraic Fahy on at half time and for the first fifteen minutes the Oranmore/Maree defence stood up to everything Carnmore could fire at them. But then Carnmore got those vital goals the first from Jimmy Hughes and then Michael Greaney.

In the last fifteen minutes Sean Murphy really got going at centerfield for Carnmore and he scored Carnmore's last two points, the last goal came from a long ball from Jimmy Conroy. It seemed to be covered by Michael Hannify; in the Oran/Maree goal when one of the backs tried to catch it but deflected the ball into the net.
