Oran/Maree………6-5 Carnmore………6-10
Playing with great determination and skill Carnmore defeated the favourites Oranmore/Maree in a most enjoyable and sporting West Board Under 21 Championship final played in most unfavorable conditions at Pearse Stadium. The pitch was badly cut up as a result of a proceeding Colleges game but nevertheless both teams served up some excellent fare.
Oranmore/Maree playing with the wind in the first half went into an early lead with a great goal scored shortly after the throw. They looked more confident all through the field during first quarter but then M. Leonard and J. Duggan got the upper land at midfield and by half time the teams were level at 3-3 each.
The second half was a really exciting half with the lead changing on two occasions but in the last quarter M. G. Greaney playing at center half forward gave a superb display and had the Oranmore/Maree backs worried every time he got possession.
Best for Carnmore were Spellman (goal), McDonagh, Duggan and Moran in the backs, Leonard and Duggan at midfield and M.J. Greaney, M. Greaney, J. Grealish, S. Morris in the forwards.
