Senior League 2007 Round 1 (rescheduled)

Liam Mellows 0-16
Carnmore 1-10

Carmore lost a bad-tempered league game against Liam Mellows in BallyLoughane on Sunday 1st April in which both sides ended the game with 14 men. Carnmore won the toss and opted to play against the strong breeze in the first half.
Mellows were quickly out of the blocks and raced into a 6 points to no score lead - 4 of these points coming from play. It was past the 20 minute mark when Carnmore registered their first score - a free from George Hanley. This was followed quickly by a fine point from Conor Glynn who had moved into corner forward at this stage. Mellows hit back with a point but Carnmore responded with a point from corner forward Enda O' Connell and another from George Hanley from a free. Mellows then had a man sent off with a straight red card for striking out at Carnmore midfielder Martin Kelly.
With the half time break approaching Carnmore were just 3 points adrift without having played well. However Mellows hit 3 quick scores before half time as the referee played 6 or 7 minutes injury time to leave the score at half time: Mellows 0-10 Carnmore 0-4.
After the break the sides traded 3 points apiece - 3 frees from George Hanley for Carnmore. George Hanley then missed a 21 yard free which was hit low but scored the resulting 65 to leave the score at 0-13 to 0-8. Amidst all this at the beginning of the second half, Carnmore captain Shane Hynes was given his marching orders following 2 quick yellow cards. The game was descending into some form of chaos at this stage due to some poor refereeing decisions and scrappy hurling.
Carnmore began to look for goals now and Ray Grealish hit a post after a good move with Enda O' Connell failing to convert the rebound. Mellows responded by hitting 2 quick points. Enda O' Connell then goaled for Carnmore to leave the score 0-15 to 1-8. The teams traded points - another free from George Hanley, before Dara Leonard finished the scoring with a fine point from play - this point was only Carnmore's 3rd point from play in the contest. This left the final score 0-16 to 1-10.
